CSU Spartans and the Spartan Squad
The CSU Spartans ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CSU_Spart ans ) was founded in October 2003 to support Spartan athletics and work toward the restoraton of San Jose's identity as the founding campus and flagship of the California State University.
This fall, a new group, called the Spartan Squad, has come on the scene. Although a recent news story said the Spartan Squad deliberately left "SJSU" off the front of their free T-shirts, the group does not explicitly support CSU restoration in San Jose.
It seems fairly obvious that the CSU Spartans helped inspire the creation of the Spartan Squad. The CSU Spartans urges all of its members, and other supporters of the CSU restoraton movement in San Jose to become involved in the Spartan Squad and try to move it in a more pro-California State direction.
The CSU Spartans also urges the leaders of the Spartan Squad to study the school's history, and keep an open mind to the advantages a more regional identity could bring to the school, its students, graduates, and athletics programs.
